Following the race, Jonjo O'Neill Jr reported that On The Bandwagon (IRE), unplaced, hung badly left- handed from leaving the back straight, and to such an extent that it prevented him from being able to place the gelding under full pressure for much of the home straight.
O'Neill Jr explained that he did not even consider it safe to attempt switching his whip through to the left hand in order to try and correct On The Bandwagon (IRE) from hanging, as relieving all the pressure he had on the right rein would have resulted in him losing control of the gelding.
O'Neill Jr further added that after jumping the last hurdle, safe in the knowledge that he had a running rail to guide On The Bandwagon (IRE), he was therefore able to ride the gelding more vigorously under a hands and heels drive.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of On The Bandwagon (IRE), during routine testing, failed to reveal any abnormalities.
