This race turned into a real slog in testing ground. Rinroe, up with the pace throughout, outstayed his rivals for a hard-fought victory. He was in front shortly after turning for home, but when collared approaching the final furlong he responded well to pressure and forged clear in the closing stages.

Dreamy Gent, a progressive sort over hurdles last autumn travelled supremely well in the straight and appeared sure to win when taking the lead with over a furlong to run, but ran out of steam. This was only his second run returning from a break and he should now be reaching peak fitness, with Punchestown around the corner.

Shirley Casper, was strongly fancied beforehand and was close enough in the straight, but just stayed on at the one pace. She is by Presenting and would ideally wan t slightly better ground. Fair Ina was reported to be coming into season before the race and ran well in the circumstances. She made the running to the straight and plugged on pretty well for fourth.
