An enquiry was held to establish why Callum Bewley, the rider of Aye Right (IRE), placed second, appeared to strike the gelding behind the saddle once with his hand, having dropped his whip after the third-last fence.
Having heard his evidence that he inadvertently struck Aye Right (IRE) with the palm of his hand to encourage the gelding to go forward before immediately realising his mistake, Bewley was reminded of his responsibility under Rule (D)2 that he should not strike a horse in any way except for proper use of the whip whilst riding.
The performance of ROCKY’S TREASURE (IRE), which was pulled up before the third last fence, was considered.
It was noted that Kim Bailey could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance on this occasion.
ROCKY’S TREASURE (IRE) was routine tested.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Boldmere (GB), which was pulled up, bled from the nose.
