See also » Blinkers-do-the-trick-for-Barretts-filly .We fancied her in Sligo the last day but for some reason she didn't run her race. She didn't jump or travel and maybe she didn't like the track. We put on blinkers to see if it would buck up her ideas. On her homework it didn't improve her a lot but we said we'd try them. She always worked like she'd win a maiden so I knew she was well handicapped if she put her best foot forward. She's done it today thank God. She can step up in trip. There is a nice race in Galway next Saturday so we'll probably stick her in that and see. With the help of God she might do something similar. James M Barrett, trainer
The Stewards interviewed D. Browne McMonagle, rider of Pikaia, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards noted the explanations offered by D. Browne McMonagle concerning his use of the whip and were satisfied that he was not in breach of Regulation 10
The Stewards requested a report from James M. Barrett, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Next In Line, placed first, as compared with its recent form. J.M. Barrett reported that his charge did not handle the track on her last run. The trainer added that today his charge was assisted by an ease in the ground along with the first time application of blinkers which may have brought about an improvement in form. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the explanation offered.
