Permission was given for Independent Beauty (GB) to be mounted in the chute and go early to post and for Cuttlestone Bridge (GB) to be mounted in the chute.
PACO’S PRIDE, drawn 3, anticipated the start and accelerated the gate at the same moment as the race had been started thereby enabling the filly to break quickly.
Being satisfied that it was not caused through a faulty action of the starting stalls, no further action was taken.
An enquiry was held to consider interference turning into the first bend involving Kingwell (GB), placed third, ridden by George Wood, PACO’S PRIDE, placed second, ridden by Jack Mitchell, Frieze Frame (GB), unplaced, ridden by Adam Farragher and Sparkling Spirit (GB), unplaced, ridden by Dougie Costello.
David Probert, the rider of Zakram (IRE), placed fourth, was also interviewed, but found not to be involved.
Wood was suspended for 3 days for careless riding as he had allowed his mount to drift left- handed into the bend when insufficiently clear of PACO’S PRIDE, taking the filly off its intended line, which took Frieze Frame (GB) off its intended line and in turn caused Sparkling Spirit (GB) to be tightened for room and Costello to take a check.
Approaching ½ furlong out, the winner, Hitched (IRE), hung right briefly inconveniencing Weloof (FR), unplaced, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved, and it had not improved the placing of Hitched (IRE).
