Leo's Pride got off the mark here in good fashion when forging two-and-a-half lengths clear at the line for Pat Smullen and trainer Dermot Weld. The three-year-old colt by Medicean had finished fourth behind High Court Drama last month and that form was franked on Thursday night when High Court Drama landed a handicap at Dundalk.
The winner, who was settled in to track the leaders for most of the way, hit the front a furlong out and in truth was a shade comfortable at the death.
Favourite and supported at the off was John Oxx's Hadarama but having been held up in rear for a long way she could only stay on to go past tired horses to finish 11 and a half lengths off the winner.
Sufad ran credibly and consistently in three starts as a two-year-old and again had to settle for place money on this occasion.
Always prominent he loomed large at two furlongs out but in fairness to the winner he just picked up better and went away from Declan McDonogh's mount. A race is sure to be won with the Alhaarth colt and probably sooner rather than later.
Chevie was another who was always up with the running, and he was sampling a severe drop in class on this occasion having never featured last time out behind Unwritten Rule. Similar to Sufad, he just failed to have the turn of foot of the winner and he may be better suited to the quicker surface at Dundalk.
David Myerscough should well be pleased with the debut of his Key Of Luck filly Keyala who came late to claim fourth while fifth placed White And Red showed more promise here than that of her debut earlier this month.
Michael Hussey rider of Tropical Joy reported to the stewards secretary that his mount was hanging right throughout and Rory Cleary rider of Ajman reported to the stewards secretary that his mount ran very green.
