R.P. Whelan, rider of Freedom Falls, trained by Jack W. Davison, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount received pressure from his outside in the closing stages
The Raceday Stewards enquired into possible interference in the closing stages involving Lady Fox, ridden by H.J
Horgan, placed first and Freedom Falls, ridden by R.P. Whelan, placed second, where it appeared that interference may have occurred. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. H. J. Horgan stated that he was a head down and his mount drifted slightly following Freedom Falls. R. P. Whelan stated that he was intimidated and went across the track with the other horse. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards were of the opinion that Lady Fox had caused interference to Freedom Falls and as a result of this interference had improved it’s finishing position. As a consequence, the Raceday Stewards reversed the placings of the first and second placed horses and amended the result to read as follows: Amended Result: First: Freedom Falls Second: Lady Fox Third: Rebecca's Girl Fourth: Paradise Perfect Fifth: Brookie Cookie Sixth: Smooth Sky Furthermore, the Raceday Stewards were of the opinion that H. J. Horgan was in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden carelessly, and having considered his record in this regard they suspended him for one raceday
