An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Primo (GB), ridden by Mark Crehan and trained by George Boughey, which was slowly away and settled towards the rear of the field, before appearing to be conservatively ridden from approaching the 3 furlong marker until being asked for an effort inside the final 1½ furlongs, whereupon the colt stayed on well to finish fifth of ten, beaten 9½ lengths.

The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the colt during routine testing failed to reveal any abnormalities.

The rider stated his instructions were to jump out and sit mid-division, before riding the race as he found it thereafter.

Crehan explained that Primo (GB) had missed the break and off a fast pace had then failed to muster any early speed despite his urgings, which resulted in him being further back than intended.

He added the colt was not facing the kickback in the early stages and raced greenly, firstly hanging right-handed approaching the home turn before then hanging left-handed in the home straight thus, in his attempt to balance the colt, he was less vigorous in his riding.

Crehan further stated that Primo (GB) had given him the strong impression, that he would appreciate being stepped up in trip, and it was his intention to advise the trainer of this fact.

Crehan’s explanations were noted, however he was fined £140 as he had failed to report at Scales any of the evidence tendered during the enquiry as reasons for his riding, or the colt’s performance.

Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Where's My Money (GB), unplaced, lost its left hind shoe.
