Paddy Butler was fined £650 for doubly declaring Estibdaad (IRE) to run in the THE BETWAY HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) and THE BETYOURWAY AT BETWAY HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) (DIV 1), both at Lingfield, and the gelding ran in the former.
Permission was given for Settle Petal (GB) to be mounted on the course.
Paddy Bradley, the rider of Settle Petal (GB), which finished fifth beaten by a short head, had appeared to stop riding shortly before the winning post.
After being interviewed and shown recordings of the incident, Bradley was suspended for 2 days for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best possible placing on a horse that could have finished fourth.
Rounding the first bend, Settle Petal (GB), placed fifth, edged marginally left-handed taking Tebay (IRE), placed third, marginally off its intended line and causing it to make contact with Pike Corner Cross (IRE), placed sixth, which had to be briefly checked by the rider.
After viewing a recording of the incident it was found that no riding offence was involved and it had not improved the placing of Settle Petal (GB).
Following the race, Richard Kingscote reported that Rockesbury (GB), placed eighth, stopped quickly, and Nicola Currie reported that Margaret J (GB), placed seventh, was outpaced early.
