This race was the plan last year but unfortunately he was lame the day before the race, so we had to pull him out and it was the target again. The intention was to hopefully win and get him up a few pounds and he'll go for the Kerry National now. It was lovely to get and Robbie gave him some ride in fairness to him. Matthew J Smith, trainer
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Gunfire Reef, trained by Ms Margaret Mullins, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal
The Stewards interviewed Rachael Blackmore, rider of Mr Diablo, concerning her use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that as some of the riders strikes were for corrective purposes and as the remaining number of strikes did not breach Regulation 10 they took no further action
The Stewards interviewed S.A. Mulcahy, rider of Macgiloney, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that the rider was in breach of Regulation 10.3(g)(frequency) and Regulation 10 3.(f) (force). Having taken his previous record in this regard into account, the Stewards suspended S.A. Mulcahy for 5 racedays
D.E. Mullins, rider of Gunfire Reef trained by Ms Margaret Mullins, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount jumped left throughout.
