Approximately 1 furlong after the start, a free-running Newton Jack (GB), placed sixth, shifted right-handed carrying Pacino (GB), placed eighth, off its intended line, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Newton Jack (GB).
Mr Bradley Roberts, the rider of Case Of The Ex (FR), placed second, was suspended for 2 days, on dates to be notified to him by the Head Office of the British Horseracing Authority, for using his whip above the permitted level from approximately 1½ furlongs out.
Mr Ryan Holmes, the rider of Confrontational (IRE), placed seventh, had appeared to stop riding shortly before the winning post before being beaten a nose for sixth place.
After being interviewed and shown recordings of the incident, Holmes was suspended for 1 day, on a date to be notified to him by the Head Office of the British Horseracing Authority, for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best possible placing on a horse that could have finished sixth.
Following the race, Mr Patrick Millman reported that Newton Jack (GB), which started favourite and finished sixth, was never travelling and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
