Prior to this race, William Jarvis was asked to explain the reason why he was running Chief Ironside (GB) here at Chester on going described as Soft, having reported that Chief Ironside (GB) did not handle the Soft ground following its previous run at Tipperary on 7 October 2018.
The trainer’s explanation that in his opinion, the Going was easier than described at Tipperary, and they were happy for the colt to take its chance on the fresh, Soft ground at Chester was noted.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that the winner, Forest Ranger (IRE), lost its right fore shoe.
