FormscanBy Alan Magee - BEACON EDGE had both Dartan and Billericay Dickie well behind when a creditable fourth to The Wallpark in a valuable 2m6f handicap at the Galway Festival. A former Grade 1 winning novice chaser for Noel Meade, the selection has been in good form this year over hurdles and was narrowly denied in another valuable 2m5f handicap at the Punchestown Festival. The dual-purpose Run For Oscar is an obvious threat having filled the runner-up spot in the Queen Alexandra Stakes at Royal Ascot and comfortably landed the odds when reverting to hurdles over 3m1f at Kilbeggan last time. Tag Man easily won a 2m4f maiden at Listowel last autumn and also scored over fences this summer.

He's such a laid-back horse, even Derek (O'Connor) said that yesterday. It doesn't take much out of him. James said it felt like he was flat out most to the way, but he finds. He is so laid-back, so it is hard to know if he is flat out or not. We will definitely consider the Petingo and the Irish Cesarewitch that he is entered in. I have to figure all that out with the weights. He would run if the ground is okay, he wouldn't want it too soft. I knew he was in great nick, he hadn't a nut left this morning. He hadn't won since the English Cesarewitch (in 2022) even though he had run some good races,. It was a good opportunity for him and the three miles was a big plus. He isn't the quickest of jumpers and missed one or two but it was his race. We don't have a plan but we'll go for a similar race if it comes up, although I don't think he'll go back to France. I was delighted with that. I didn't think he'd go on that ground, but Paul said he handled it well. For a maiden, I thought he jumped very well and he could go wherever he wants. We'll look at a novice hurdle somewhere and we'll see if Paul thinks he's good enough for a race across the water. I'd like to get another run into him before we go there, if we go there.
