Permission was given for Hotter Than Hell (FR) to be mounted in the chute and go early to post.
Approaching the bend leaving the back straight on the final circuit, the winner, Haul Away (IRE), stepped in slightly causing the rider of The Vollan (IRE), placed eighth, to become momentarily short of room and be steadied against the rail, resulting in Hotter Than Hell (FR), unplaced, clipping its heel, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the performance of Haul Away (IRE).
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference from inside the final ½ furlong to the winning line when the winner, Haul Away (IRE), ridden by Nico de Boinville, interfered with Taste The Fear (IRE), placed second, ridden by Sam Twiston-Davies, which in turn interfered with BOND’S LOVER (IRE), placed third, ridden by James Bowen.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Haul Away (IRE)’s placing as the gelding always appeared to be holding both Taste The Fear (IRE) and BOND’S LOVER (IRE) and was going away in the final few strides with ¾ length and a neck between them at the line de Boinville was suspended for 3 days for careless riding as after having switched his whip to his left hand, he failed to take sufficient or timely steps to prevent his horse from continuing to drift left-handed, making contact with Taste The Fear (IRE), which in turn crowded BOND’S LOVER (IRE) against the rail on the run to the line.
