An enquiry was held to consider interference just inside the final furlong involving Independence Day (IRE), placed second, ridden by Joey Haynes and Bold Decision (GB), placed third, ridden by Tom Marquand.
Haynes was suspended for 2 days for careless riding as he allowed his mount to shift right when insufficiently clear and without correction, carrying Bold Decision (GB) off its intended line and to be checked.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of The Simple Truth (FR), ridden by John Egan and trained by John Berry, which was held up in rear and stayed on under apparent tender handling to finish seventh, beaten 9¼ lengths.
The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race.
The rider stated the gelding had run very free in its previous races, so his instructions were to obtain cover and settle The Simple Truth (FR).
He added that the gelding was again slightly free in the early stages today, a fact which he reported at Scales, but that The Simple Truth (FR) travelled well into the race, before being short of room when going for a run between Mr Kodi (IRE), unplaced, and Potters Question (GB), placed fourth, after which the gelding stayed on at the one pace.
The trainer stated he was satisfied with the ride and it accorded with instructions given, adding that in time, assuming that The Simple Truth (FR) settles better, the gelding may be suited by a step up in trip.
Their explanations were noted.
Following the race, Joey Haynes reported that Independence Day (IRE), placed second, hung right in the final furlong and John Egan reported that The Simple Truth (FR), unplaced, ran too free.
