The Stewards noted that approximately 1½ furlongs out, Jane Elliott, the rider of Dark Company (IRE), placed second, switched out for a run across the heels of the winner, Moktasaab (GB), anticipating that the gelding was going to continue to drift left-handed towards the rail, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
The performance of The Thunderer (IRE), which started favourite and finished fifth, beaten by 13 lengths, was considered.
It was noted that Chris Wall could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance on this occasion other than a report from the rider that The Thunderer (IRE) was never travelling.
