An enquiry was held to consider why Rae Guest was running Salt Whistle Bay (IRE) here at Newbury on going described as Good, Good to Firm in places, having declared the gelding a non-runner at Sandown Park on 24 July 2019 on ground with the same official description.
The representative of the trainer stated that Salt Whistle Bay (IRE)’s owners were in attendance today and were keen for the gelding to run.
Permission was given for Athmad (IRE) to wear a hood in the Parade Ring only, go early to post and be mounted in the chute.
Approaching the final furlong, the winner, Qaysar (FR), lugged right-handed before being quickly corrected by its rider, causing Mr Top Hat (GB), placed third, to shy away into He's Amazing (IRE), unplaced, which had to be checked, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Qaysar (FR) or Mr Top Hat (GB).
Following the race, Andrea Atzeni reported that Baryshnikov (GB), which started favourite and finished fourth, jumped poorly and was never travelling, Jim Crowley reported that Wafy (IRE), placed second, was denied a clear run, Harry Bentley reported that Mr Top Hat (GB), placed third, hung right-handed, James Doyle reported that the winner, Qaysar (FR), hung right-handed; the gelding was routine tested and Silvestre De Sousa reported that Salt Whistle Bay (IRE), unplaced, had no more to give.
