Darling Alko (FR) and Aria Rose (GB) wore earplugs throughout.
Secret Beri (GB) arrived at the start with blood in her mouth.
Having been examined by the Veterinary Surgeon, the Mare was found to have bitten its tongue and was deemed fit to race.
The winner Cardigan Bay (FR), appeared to show improved form, compared with its previous run at Cartmel on 24 August 2019 where the gelding finished seventh of ten runners, beaten by 29 lengths on a going of Good to Soft, Soft in places.
Charlie Longsdon’s explanation was noted, that the mare appreciated the quicker going, which was Good to Soft on this occasion.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Almazhar Garde (FR), ridden by Gavin Sheehan and trained by Charlie Longsdon, which was held up in rear throughout before staying on after the third last hurdle under a hands and heels ride to finish eighth, beaten 23 1/4 lengths.
The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race; the Handicapper offered observations and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding, during routine testing failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated that he had been instructed to drop in and switch the gelding off as he had been very keen on his previous start at Fontwell and to then ride the race from there in an attempt to obtain the best possible placing.
He added that Almazhar Garde (FR) made a mistake at the first hurdle and ran too freely throughout the early stages of the race before initially being outpaced when the tempo increased, turning into the back straight.
He further added that having asked for an effort after jumping the fourth last, Almazhar Garde (FR) stayed on past weakening horses.
Sheehan explained that he had recommended to the trainer that the gelding would benefit from running at sharper tracks over the minimum distance of 2 miles, with a view to getting a stronger pace to assist Almazhar Garde (FR) in relaxing early.
The trainer confirmed the instructions and that he was satisfied with the ride given.
Their explanations were noted.
Following the race, Ciaran Gethings reported that Bella Beau (IRE), unplaced, ran too freely, Charlie Hammond reported that Secret Beri (GB), unplaced, also ran too freely.
The Veterinary Officer reported that Amangiri (IRE), unplaced, lost his left fore-shoe.
