The Stewards interviewed S.A. Shortall, rider of Toca Deed, concerning his use of the whip in this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion S.A. Shortall was in breach of Regulation 10 3 (f) in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency and having taken his good record into account, they cautioned him accordingly The Stewards requested a report from John G. Carr, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of Barney King, winner, as compared with its recent form. The trainer reported that this horse was off the track with a leg for almost 3 years and on his second last run here at Ballinrobe he burst a blood vessel, which he duly reported. Then on his last appearance his rider almost got ran away with on the way to start, and this was compounded by a number of false starts, at which he expelled all his energy before the race had even started. Having considered the report, the Stewards noted it's contents.
