An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference on the run to the line when Bomb Squad (IRE), placed second, ridden by Laura Coughlan, interfered with Apache Jewel (IRE), placed third, ridden by Sean Levey, which in turn interfered with Jaffathegaffa (GB), placed fourth, ridden by Charlie Bennett.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Bomb Squad (IRE)’s placing as, at the time of the interference, the gelding was travelling better than both Apache Jewel (IRE) and Jaffathegaffa (GB) and the momentum lost by the third and fourth placed horses were less than the extending ½ and ¾ of a length by which they were beaten.
Coughlan was suspended for 2 days for careless riding for allowing her mount to drift right-handed without sufficient correction making contact with and taking Apache Jewel (IRE) off its intended line which in turn made contact with Jaffathegaffa (GB).
The winner, Kartvelian (IRE), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Lingfield on 26 April 2021 where the filly finished eleventh of 13, beaten by 9 lengths.
James Fanshawe's explanation that the filly had benefitted from her first run on turf was noted; Kartvelian (IRE) was routine tested.
Approximately 2 furlongs out, Bayamon Belle (IRE), placed fifth, had to be switched after racing awkwardly on the heels of Bomb Squad (IRE), placed second, but after viewing a recording of the incident it was found that no riding offence was involved.
