Permission was given for Eton Blue (IRE) to wear a red hood to post.
Leaving the stalls, Knowwhentorun (GB), placed third, jumped left at the same time as Eton Blue (IRE), placed fifth, jumped right causing the pair to bump but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that there was no riding offence involved and it had not improved the placing of Knowwhentorun (GB).
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference inside the final furlong involving the winner, At Liberty (IRE), ridden by Joe Bradnam and Sea Of Charm (FR), placed second, ridden by Rose Dawes.
Being claiming apprentices, both riders were offered accompaniment in the enquiry, but declined.
After hearing evidence from both riders and viewing recordings of the incident, it was established that from approaching the ½ furlong marker At Liberty (IRE) drifted right-handed towards the far rail causing Sea Of Charm (FR) to be steadied for several strides when tightened for racing room, before having to be switched left-handed in order to continue its run.
Taking into account the material extent of the interference suffered by Sea Of Charm (FR) after ultimately being beaten by a margin of 2 lengths, which was accentuated by the fact that Dawes had not ridden her mount out fully to the finish line thereafter and considering the manner in which both runners were finishing the race off prior to the incident, the Stewards were unable to be satisfied that had the interference not occurred Sea Of Charm (FR) would have finished in front of At Liberty (IRE) and therefore ordered the placings to remain unaltered.
Bradnam was suspended for 3 days for careless riding as he had failed to take sufficient steps to correct his mount from drifting right-handed to the rail when insufficiently clear of Sea Of Charm (FR), thereby causing interference to Dawes.
Following the race, Anna Gibson reported that Junkanoo (GB), unplaced, ran flat and Aiden Brookes reported that Mujid (IRE), placed sixth, stumbled leaving the stalls.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post- race examination of both geldings failed to reveal any abnormalities.
