Permission was given for Metarace (IRE) to go early to post and to wear ear plugs which will be removed at the start.
Approaching 4 furlongs, Surrey Noir (FR), placed second, anticipated becoming short for room and was steadied, resulting in the rider of Protest Rally (IRE), unplaced, to take a check off its heels, which in turn caused a free running Metarace (IRE), unplaced, which was following to be checked but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Surrey Noir (FR).
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Haulfronhobbs (GB), ridden by Thore Hammer Hansen and trained by Chris Dwyer which was tenderly handled in the home straight to finish eighth of ten runners, beaten 9 ¾ lengths.
The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race; the Veterinary Officer reported a post-race examination of the filly failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated his instructions were to jump away, sit mid-division and ride the race from there.
He explained that the filly was awkwardly away and ran green, a matter in which he reported at scales.
The trainer stated that these were his instructions, however he was not satisfied with the ride and effort given by Hammer Hansen.
Hammer Hansen was suspended for 10 days for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure his horse was run on its merits in that he had failed to ask for either real, timely or substantial effort in the race.
Following the race, Mohammed Tabti reported that Metarace (IRE), unplaced, ran too free.
