Permission was given for Sarvan (GB) to wear a red hood to the start.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race following interference on the run to the line when the winner, Menai Bridge (GB), ridden by Saffie Osborne, interfered with Oslo (GB), placed second, ridden by Daniel Tudhope.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved the placing of Menai Bridge (GB) as there was no contact between the runners, Oslo (GB) had suffered no loss of momentum and was carried only marginally off its intended line.
The interference was found to be accidental as Menai Bridge (GB) hung slightly right-handed despite the rider’s best efforts.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Oslo (GB), ridden by Daniel Tudhope and trained by Michael Appleby, which broke well from the stalls and travelled well during the race on the inside rail three quarters back in the field, before being asked for what appeared to be a late effort in the closing stages to finish second, beaten by a head.
The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the race, and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Tudhope stated that his instructions were to take his time and not get to the front too soon, as he had been advised the gelding is prone to idle in front.
He added that he had got Oslo (GB) into a good position on the rail, and the gelding was nice and relaxed.
He further started that Oslo (GB) was travelling well and he had a lead going down into the bend, at which point the gaps started to open up.
He further started that when switching to the outside of the winner at the furlong marker to continue his run, he had had to steady off the winner’s heels but that Oslo (GB), who had made up a length on the winner, under a hands and heels ride, had failed to make up any significant ground under a strong late drive to the line.
His explanation was noted.
