At the request of the Stewards, C. Brassil, rider of Flying Mary, trained by Martin Brassil, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount met with interference at the first hurdle that cost her a prominent position, was looking at her hurdles thereafter but stayed on in the straight.
At the request of the Stewards, E. O'Connell, rider of Melburnian (FR), trained by A.J.Martin, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was ridden towards the rear of the field as she can be very free but made mistakes at the last three hurdles which cost her a better finishing position.
The Stewards interviewed A.W. Short, rider of Flash De Clerval (FR), concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that A.W. Short was in breach of R10(3)(g) by using his whip with excessive frequency. On this occasion the Stewards cautioned A.W. Short.
