O'Brien saddles one-two in Fairyhouse opener
Nobody Home scores again for local owner/trainer
We were hoping for better ground and his best runs so far had been on better ground. He’s run over three miles and stays this trip well. He’s an experienced horse and a good jumper with all his chasing experience. Chris gave him a confident ride and got him switched off out the back. He pulled him out on a bit of fresh ground around Ballyhack and he just took off.
Laurina lands her Grade One in good style
She's a good novice, she'll have to achieve a bit more to get the heights of some of the mares that have been there (in Closutton) but she is doing everything right and going the right way. I think she was cantering everywhere and she just seems to be a lot better than the rest at the moment. If all is well we'll go on to Punchestown with her - we'll see how she comes out of the race. That's good to get her Grade One there so very pleased. She could go for a novice race at Punchestown. The mares’ race is an open race which would be tough. I’m going to leave it open and I wouldn’t be worried about trip. She could go out to three (miles) easily and has enough ability to do two miles. We’ll have to see how the other horses that ran at Cheltenham fare out over the next few days. It’s not going to be easy for them especially on that ground as it’s very tacky. She handled it well.
Pallasator picks up Grade 2 at Fairyhouse
He's a good horse and would prefer better ground. He'll go to Punchestown, all being well.
Change of tactics works for Bel Ami De Sivola
I really fancied him, and I told Eddie (O’Leary) before the race we were going to change tactics and hold him up today. He wasn’t too impressed about that plan but he said to me after the race that’s why you are the trainer!. He’s a nice horse and will be a better horse on better ground. Hopefully he’ll go to Punchestown for something and he might get better ground there. He worked very well the other day and I was very happy with him. He handled the ground well enough today.
Al Boum Photo brings up Grade One double for Mullins
He deserved that as he was unlucky at Christmas and David gave him a great ride and kept a little bit up his sleeve. It’s nice to get a good winner for Mrs Donnelly. I think he wants a longer trip and that’s why he was staying on at the end. I think the first four will all be three-mile chasers down the line.
Meade doubles up with newcomer Pat's Pick
We’ve liked him all along but I didn’t think he’d win. We never really dipped him that much. He came here for a schooling race and he worked very well. That was about a month ago and he’s just been cantering away since. We won’t run him any more until next season when he’ll jump. Kevin Ross bought him for Joe Sloan at that sale and I’m delighted for him because we had a nice horse for him that got killed this day last year at the last hurdle when it looked like he might win. He’s had plenty of bad luck but they are great owners and I’m delighted he won for them. He’s by Shantou and has a good pedigree. He’s still very weak and I’d say he will improve a lot. He’ll come back a nice horse after the summer. And what can you say about the jockey - she’s just different class!
