Permission was given for Billy Roberts (IRE) and Burguillos (GB) to go early to post, and for Savitar (IRE) to wear a hood in the Parade Ring.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Admodum (USA), trained by John Butler and ridden by Darragh Keenan, which was settled at the rear of the field where it stayed until rounding the final bend before being asked for an effort in the home straight to stay on strongly to finish eighth, beaten by 6 ¾ lengths.
The rider and the trainer’s representative were interviewed and shown recordings of the race.
The Veterinary Officer reported that an initial post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities, but further reported that a post-race examination of Admodum (USA) approximately half an hour after the race, revealed he had a heart murmur.
The rider stated his instructions were to take his time and ride Admodum (USA) to get the trip as it was the gelding’s first run for them over 1 mile 2 furlongs.
He added that having been given a bad draw he felt he had no option but to drop the gelding in, after which Admodum (USA) then ran keenly at the rear of the field.
Keenan added that the gelding was denied a clear run rounding the final bend, a fact which he had reported at Scale.
Keenan also added that he had not wanted to risk running four wide on the bend and therefore had hoped to be able to improve his position between horses.
He continued that having got a clear run in the home straight the gelding ran on well.
The trainer’s representative stated that she was satisfied with the ride and that it accorded with the instructions given.
Their explanations were noted.
Following the race, Liam Keniry reported that Regulator (IRE), placed fifth, was denied a clear run in the straight.
