Approaching 2½ furlongs out Burrito (GB), placed second, hung notably right-handed, moving Kokinelli (FR), placed fourth, off its intended line which in turn caused the winner Marama (GB), to be carried wider.
A short distance later Burrito (GB), shifted left-handed having been corrected by the rider, which resulted in Hillbridge, placed third, being tightened for room on the rail.
After viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Burrito (GB).
Following the race, Kieran Shoemark reported that Burrito (GB), placed second, hung right-handed throughout.
Race 2 - 2:30pm.
THE HALLIWELL JONES NURSERY HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5) Permission was given for CAPTAIN PICKLES (IRE) to wear a red hood to post.
An enquiry was held to consider two incidents of interference rounding the home bend, involving CLAIM TO GLORY (IRE), placed eighth, ridden by Sean Dylan Bowen, MARRY THE NIGHT, placed second, ridden by Duran Fentiman, GROUNDSMAN (IRE), placed third, ridden by Jack Garritty and SOFIAN (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Millie Wonnacott.
The first incident was found to be accidental as CLAIM TO GLORY (IRE) had hung left-handed and raced awkwardly at the same time as GROUNDSMAN (IRE) cornered slightly wide away from the inside rail, which moved MARRY THE NIGHT to its right and as a result CLAIM TO GLORY (IRE) lost its position between runners.
In the second incident a short distance later, Bowen was suspended for 3 days for careless riding as having initially lost his position between MARRY THE NIGHT and KARL CARLSTON (IRE), he then switched his mount left-handed across the heels of MARRY THE NIGHT towards the rail when not fully clear of SOFIAN (IRE), causing Wonnacott to take a significant check on that colt.
Inside the final furlong GROUNDSMAN (IRE), placed third, shifted right-handed whilst racing greenly slightly impeding MARRY THE NIGHT, placed second, and also carrying CAPTAIN PICKLES, placed sixth, off its intended line.
After viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had improved the placing of GROUNDSMAN (IRE).
Following the race, Franny Norton reported that KARL CARLSTON (IRE), placed fourth, hung violently left- handed, which caused his saddle to slip around to the right and also made it very difficult to ride the gelding out under pressure; Sean Dylan Bowen reported that CLAIM TO GLORY (IRE), placed eighth, hung left-handed in the straight; Duran Fentiman reported that MARRY THE NIGHT, placed second, was denied a clear run passing the 1 furlong marker.
