Permission was given for Lady Sally (IRE) to wear a hood in the parade ring only.
As the start was affected, the Stewards noted that with a number of runners wanting to be prominent, the field became short of room, which resulted in Sixty Dollars More (FR), unplaced; Lissitzky (IRE), unplaced; and Queen Among Kings (IRE), unplaced, losing several lengths.
Upon jumping the fifth hurdle, Here's Bingo (GB), placed fourth, shifted left-handed, taking Lady Sally (IRE), placed eighth, off its intended line, in turn bumping the winner, City Flame (GB), but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of HERE’S BINGO.
The winner, City Flame (GB), appeared to show improved form, compared with its previous run at Exeter on 16 April 2021 where the gelding finished fifth of eleven runners, beaten by 29 lengths.
Alexandra Dunn explained that City Flame (GB) had appreciated the step up in trip from 2 miles 2 furlongs and 111 yards to 2 miles 7 furlongs and 70 yards on this occasion.
Her explanation was noted.
Profile Picture (IRE), placed second from 7lbs out of the handicap, appeared to show improved form, compared with its previous run at Warwick on 11 April 2021 where the gelding finished eighth of fourteen runners, beaten by 61½ lengths.
Grace Harris explained that Profile Picture (IRE) had benefited from a drop in grade, with this being the gelding's first run in a handicap, in addition to appreciating a surface which, in her opinion, was the quickest that the gelding had experienced to date.
Her explanation was noted and Profile Picture (IRE) was routine tested.
The performance of Lissitzky (IRE), which started favourite and finished unplaced, was considered.
Rebecca Curtis could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Lissitzky (IRE) failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Following the race, James Bowen reported that Master Newton (IRE), unplaced, stopped quickly; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The Veterinary Officer further reported that First Du Charmil (FR), placed seventh, lost its right-hind shoe.
