I'm delighted for everybody. It's great for Colm, he got beaten in this race a few times. He's a world-class rider. Could you believe Beyond Brilliance? Ana got an unbelievable run out of her. Ana was sure she would get the mile and a half. Tapestry ran a great race. The delay didn't suit her on the day. A P O'Brien, trainer
J.P. O'Brien, rider of Tapestry, trained by A.P.O'Brien, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount stumbled on leaving stalls and saddle slipped. The Stewards received a report from Mr. P.L. Malone , Turf Club Clerk of the Scales, regarding the fact that J.P. O'Brien, rider of Tapestry, weighed in at 1.6 lbs overweight. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who stated that he had taken a drink of water at the start and also that his mount sweated up due to the delayed start which may have accounted for the overweight on his return. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards accepted the explanation offered and took no further action. The Stewards received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer that Volume (GB) trained by Luca Cumani (in GB) was found to be wearing hind shoes with protrusions contrary to Regulation 16, prior to the running of this race. The Stewards gave permission for the filly to run provided the protrusions and/or the shoes could be removed. The removal of the protrusions from the shoes proved difficult, despite being attended to by two farriers, resulting in an unavoidable delay. The farriers achieved the removal of the protrusions prior to the time limit imposed by the Stewards allowing the filly to run. P.J. Smullen, rider of Tarfasha, trained by D. K. Weld, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount travelled well but failed to pick up in the closing stages.
