She was found to have a slight respiratory tract infection when disappointing on her handicap debut at Naas on February 24th but back in maiden company against mares only, BROTENSTOWN, with a mark of 101, was restored to her best.
They all looked to be battling for minor money when SORRENTINA cruised to the front in the straight but BROTENSTOWN, who certainly had the form in the book to win a heat such as this, came home the strongest to collar the faltering runner-up close home. A winning distance of a length and a quarter only goes to emphasis how deep the ground was.
Paul Cashman, victorious trainer/rider, said of the nibbled at winner (7s into 5s), ?she scoped wrong the last day. She stays well and will probably get a break now and go chasing in the autumn."
SORRENTINA shouldn't be judged too harshly for turning what looked like an assured win into a defeat. The experienced bumper winner will surely get a turn again.
ROTORUA led before three out until headed in the straight and the fact that she was only two and a half lengths back in third underlines the soundness of this run. A similar comment to the second applies to this one.
Point-to-point scorer, OAR HOUSE was never seen with a chance, but this Turtle Island mare, a mere five-year-old, showed promise with a staying-on fourth. She is from the family of hunter chasers, Five Seven Live and Just Cassandra, and some optimism can be held out for her future.
Pace-setting, SEA BEAUTY folded before three out, stopping to nothing and pulling up before the next. COLLOU disappointed, she had made a mistake at the fifth. The best of her form is on much nicer ground. HAMELSMEAD LADY was a non-runner owing to being lame.
