He's actually better than what he's shown, but he wants everything to go right for him. I said to David 'if you jump the first three here, you'll win'. The last day he didn't jump and he's dynamite to jump. David gave him a grand ride, he's a good young lad and is well able to ride. It's great to win here, he battled away. He's probably as good a jumper as we've ever had. He's lightly raced, he gave a few problems, and he's a big raw horse. He just needed a bit of time. Owing to ground conditions, the Raceday Stewards granted permission for fence number one to be omitted from race six
The Raceday Stewards requested a report from Martin Hassett, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Soloman Lane (GB), placed first, as compared with its most recent run. Martin Hassett stated that his charge found the going too tacky last time out and the looser ground today coupled with a return to a track where he has previously run well had helped to bring about the apparent improvement in form. Having considered the report the Raceday Stewards noted the explanation given

An extended handicap steeplechase for five years old and upwards (116 = 12st 4lbs) Penalties - Winner of a steeplechase after calculation of the handicap shall carry 7lb extra for each steeplechase won. Riders - Confined to Qualified Riders under I.N.H.S. Rules who have not lost the right to claim the 7lb allowance under Rule 52. Allowances - (which are not cumulative, up to and including 29th February) Riders who have not ridden the winner of a *race allowed..........4lb Those who have not ridden the winners of 5 *races allowed........2lb No allowance to riders under Rule 52 may be claimed *Including races under any N.H.
