The winner, DYLAN’S SEA SONG, appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Newton Abbot on 5 May 2021, where the mare finished seventh of thirteen, beaten by 21 lengths.
Mark Usher’s explanation that DYLAN’S SEA SONG appeared to benefit from the drop back in trip from 2 miles 2½ furlongs to 2 miles on this occasion, was noted.
The mare was routine tested.
The performance of WHITLOCK, which started favourite and finished last of the thirteen runners, beaten by 43 lengths, was considered.
Nico de Boinville reported that the gelding was never travelling and Nicky Henderson’s explanation that WHITLOCK was unsuited by going, which in his opinion was riding faster than the official description of Good on this occasion and that the gelding would be better suited to an easier surface, was noted.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that DEREK DUVAL (USA), placed eighth, was treated for post-race heat-stress and that the gelding lost its left-fore shoe.
