Walsh back with a winner on Easy Game
The horse was in great order and he improved from Killarney as Paul (Townend) thought he would. He did it real well. He jumped super and he travelled well. It's great to be back - pressure off! It’s a relief. I’ve only had a week’s work in the last nine months and it’s great to be back. I hope I last a bit longer than a week this time!. The leg has felt great for a long time - I had no worries about that, it was everything else I had to worry about. It has been a long enough old road. I’ve been ready for a fortnight or three weeks and this was always the target. It’s great to have Ruby back. He jumped from hurdle to hurdle and climbed the hill. You are always wondering when you come to Galway whether you have a horse that will climb and he climbed. It’s a nice start to the week.
There's a Storm Rising for Hogan in Galway
There was very little between three or four of them. I ended up in front at the back of the second-last and Barry got a tow all the way up and obviously gave him a good ride. Ciaran O’Toole rang yesterday morning to say he was available and you have to use him. I have a big string at the minute and it’s getting bigger. I’m just looking to get a better calibre of horse and hopefully step up a notch. All you can do is keep chipping away and working hard. I’m lucky that I have great staff and great owners plus my parents behind me.
Zander rewards connections in Ballybrit
This is where you earn your money - you make calls to run back. You can take the easy route and do the right thing and wait. Everything went wrong on Friday night and we’d have been working him on Saturday morning if he didn’t run. It turned into a piece of work for him, so I took the view if the rain falls and he’s okay and eats up then I’d come back here on Monday. Colin said they went a million miles an hour. It’s riding slower than you would expect and he felt they had to stop the speed they went. Our horse wants a mile going forward so it’s nice to tick a box with him and it’s another for that owner thank God.
Mulvany savours first Galway Festival victory
We’ve been trying for years (to have a winner at the Festival) and have had loads of seconds. It’s great to get it. Every jockey that rode him this year has said he’s a Galway horse, and I said we have him fit enough as he’s ran plenty!
McMahon takes 'GPT' glory for second year in a row
They went a fantastic gallop and they kept up the pace. They often ease off the pace passing the stands but they kept it up down the back. Obviously the ones making the pace fell by the wayside and Limini was travelling well and then I looked back and I saw Uradel was travelling well. I thought that was Patrick’s biggest danger turning for home and it turned out that way. It was a tremendous performance from Aubrey as a 7lb claimer to win it two years in a row. They were nine lengths clear of the third, and it was a great run from Limini after being off for so long. Limini will stay on the Flat and we’ll run her in a big handicap wherever we can get in or she may even go for a Listed race.
Baba Boom brings up hat-trick in good style
The last two weeks he’s really turned a corner, he’s developed up into his size and rides like a nice horse. He’s a bit lazy though his races but hits the line well. He’s still a bit immature and Shane says he’ll have no problem getting another two furlongs.
Zero Ten shows plenty on first start for Mullins
He’s a lovely horse and did that the hard way as he didn’t give Derek much of a chance early on. He was very keen. Hopefully he’ll switch off and learn to race and he could be a nice horse for the future. I’d imagine he’ll go over hurdles now. He’s won a point-to-point and gave an exhibition of jumping that day. It’s his first run for me and three weeks ago I didn’t know if he’d make it here or not. I only turned the screw and he came alive straight away. I’d imagine he likes this type of ground.
