Approaching the final furlong, Golden Crusader (FR), unplaced, hung quickly left-handed despite the riders best efforts to correct the colt, carrying Maxine (IRE), unplaced, across the running of War Thunder (GB), placed fourth, which had to be steadied and switched right-handed across its heels, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
Ray Dawson, the rider of Glowing For Gold (GB), placed second, was suspended for 6 days for using his whip above the permitted level from approximately 1¼ furlongs out, and in the incorrect place on the run to the line.
Following the race, Thomas Greatrex reported that Charter By Time (GB), unplaced, was slowly away and William Buick reported that Golden Crusader (FR), unplaced, hung badly left-handed in the straight.
Rossa Ryan reported that Riktar (IRE), placed third, hung right-handed throughout.
