Permission was given for both Allux Boy (IRE) and Rock Icon (GB) to go early to post.
The winner, Rock Icon (GB), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Lingfield on 2 January 2020 where the gelding finished seventh of eight, beaten by 6¼ lengths.
Roger Teal explained that Rock Icon (GB) had settled better after being able to obtain cover on this occasion.
The gelding was routine tested.
Shortly after the start, Aqua Libre (GB), unplaced, was tightened for room between Undercolours (IRE), placed sixth, which lugged right-handed and Bar Room Bore (IRE), unplaced, which edged left- handed, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
Following the race, George Downing reported that Aqua Libre (GB), unplaced, ran too freely and Kieran O'Neill reported that Tio Esteban (FR), placed eighth, took a false step approximately 5 furlongs out but returned sound; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities and Lewis Edmunds reported that Enzo (IRE), placed seventh, was denied a clear run inside the final furlong.
