All my horses are running well at present and we had a good winner in England yesterday (Linger). John Joseph Hanlon, trainer
The Stewards interviewed Miss S. Larkin, rider of The Ballyboys, concerning her use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Regulation 10,3(b,) in that she had continued to use her whip after her chance of winning or being placed had clearly gone. Having taken her previous record in this regard into account, the Stewards cautioned her. The Stewards requested a report from John Joseph Hanlon, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Secrets Safe, placed first, as compared with its recent form. The trainer reported that his charge had disappointed in Ludlow on it's previous run when loosing interest despite wearing blinkers and a tongue tie and prior to that, had ran better than the result showed in Wexford, when running well before being headed in the latter stages and appearing to loose interest thereafter. He added that this horse is a difficult quirky type and in an attempt to rekindle his interest, he had removed both the blinkers and tongue tie and this in his opinion had brought about the apparent improvement in form. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the explanation offered and took no further action
