Permission was given for Citizen General (IRE) to wear a red hood to the start and for Dr Rio (FR) to go early to post and be mounted in the chute.
Approximately 1 furlong after the start, Nonsuch Lad (IRE), placed third, had to be checked when crowded for racing room between a free-running Dr Rio (FR), placed second, which lugged left-handed, and Morani Kali (GB), placed sixth, which had shifted slightly right-handed when being restrained off the heels of Liberated Lad (GB), placed fourth, but after viewing a recording of the incident it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Dr Rio (FR).
An enquiry was held to consider interference approaching the 3 furlong marker involving Regal Vision (GB), placed fifth, ridden by Andrew Breslin and Liberated Lad (GB), placed fourth, ridden by Cameron Noble.
Breslin was suspended for 5 days for careless riding as he had edged his mount left-handed towards the rail when insufficiently clear of Liberated Lad (GB), causing Noble to check for a sustained period when badly tightened for racing room against the rail, during which time there was never any effort made to alleviate the pressure.
