FormscanBy John O'Riordan - The Gordon Elliott-trained four-year-old MORDOR should appreciate stepping up to this trip for the first time over hurdles. A consistent performer in stronger races over the winter, the gelding opened his account at Sligo last month. However, it was when following up back on the flat over 1m 6f at Killarney just over a week later that the Roaring Lion gelding indicated that he really enjoyed a stamina test. Staying on to finish second at Galway last time confirmed the suspicion that he now requires at least this far. Dollar Value, who ran a remarkable race when winning a Sligo Claiming Hurdle on Thursday has to be a contender if getting away on terms. Semblance Of Order would be a serious danger to all if fit and ready for this first run since November.

He's a horse with such an engine, if you can get into his head, you've a chance. Down the hill the last time I got him rolling and I was actually sitting sweet on him then going to two out. He's always been tricky at the start and refused one day here before. I always go down to the start with him, if I wasn't there he wouldn't go at all. It was either run here or in Cheltenham yesterday in the race won by My Mate Mozzie but I wasn't just convinced that it might have been a fluke when we beat him at Fairyhouse. It suited to come to Galway and I'm delighted to see him win on that softer ground. He is something to look forward to and it is early in the year so I wouldn't get just excited yet but could go for a handicap at Leopardstown over Christmas. He likes fences, jumps, goes a good gallop and could eventually go for the Grand Annual at Cheltenham - I think that's the type of horse he is. He was my only runner over Christmas and was one we thought might win. He’s a nice horse and since the first day he started jumping hurdles he seems to enjoy it. I think there is a four-year-old novice in Naas in mid-February and we’ll go there and give him an entry in Cheltenham. We’ll see what happens with the handicapper. He stays all day. It was out of the blue the last day [when he whipped around at the start in Fairyhouse and refused to race] and we thought it might be a bit soft for him today. After what happened last week we wanted to get him out as quick as possible to try and put a line through that. he’s a good horse on the flat but started acting the monkey at stalls. We were going to step him up in trip at that stage and then schooled him over hurdles and he jumps well. He was a bit novicey at the first few and Sam gave him a super ride. We thought if we could get to the last and then go forward as he wouldn’t do any more than he has to in front. He’s had a couple of schooling days and hopefully there is plenty of improvement. There is a race at Fairyhouse in a couple of weeks but it might come a bit soon and Christmas might be the next stepping stone. He’s very clean winded and settles well.
