On making his Irish debut River Liane could not have been anymore impressive and although Davy Russell was impressed without getting carried away, there was an awful lot to like about the facile win of the French bred four-year-old.

Russell settled his mount in mid-division as Made In Taipan went along in front under Ruby Walsh. Tom Mullins charge was awkward at a couple of flights early on but got his jumping in order as the race went on but still had to settle for a relative second placing five-and-a-half lengths behind the facile winner.

River Liane just came to the front at his ease and soon after the second last he asserted to leave his rivals for dead and immediately he was inserted as favourite for the Fred Winter which would be his target all being well following this run according to Tom Cooper.

Made In Taipan was taking a drop in class here and was just unlucky to come up against a horse who obviously has a bit of class and who he had to give 19lbs which is not to be forgotten.

Montana Bay was reverting back to hurdles and ran a good race having been off since November and with the yard beginning to strike form he can be expected to be well placed wherever he goes next and will no doubt give a good account of himself.

Sher Why Not was travelling well until he fell two out and while he certainly would have made the place money it was impossible to suggest he would have challenged the winner. Tear On Tessie fell at the same flight while Marseillais finished fourth but was disqualified as his rider did not weigh in
