An enquiry was held to consider whether Fergus Gillard, the rider of Kaiden Michael (IRE), unplaced, had continued in the race when the horse appeared to be exhausted and climbed over the final fence.
The rider and the Veterinary Officer were interviewed, and recordings of the incident were viewed.
The Veterinary Officer stated that a post-race examination of Kaiden Michael (IRE) failed to reveal any abnormalities and that the gelding was recovering within the normal parameters, similar to other runners in the race.
The rider’s explanation that he felt that Kaiden Michael (IRE) had sufficient momentum to jump the final fence, but the gelding jibbed in the final stride approaching the obstacle, was accepted.
Following the race, Tom Britten reported that State Of Origin (IRE), which was pulled up, made a respiratory noise.
