Having reviewed the start, the Stewards were satisfied that Knight Commander (GB) had been very reluctant to jump off, forfeiting many lengths at the start and was deemed to be a runner.
An enquiry was held to consider whether Miss Katie Powell, the rider of Knight Commander (GB), should have continued in the race when the gelding had appeared to be tailed off shortly after the start had been effected due to proving reluctant to jump off.
The rider was interviewed and recordings of the incident were viewed.
Powell’s explanation that Knight Commander (GB) had been spooked as the tape was released which caused the gelding to be reluctant to jump off with the other runners and perhaps in hindsight it had not been advisable to have continued having forfeited so many lengths at the start, was noted.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Pilansberg (GB), which was pulled up, had an irregular heartbeat.
