Drive gets job done in opener
Looking at him in the ring I thought he looked a bit big and Jack said he’d come on a lot from it. We’re just trying to start a few of them off and they will come on plenty for it. We’ll keep it small with him and he could go further. Going by on the first circuit I thought he was going as quick as he wanted. Jack said the further he went the more he tries.
Connell's Thaix very impressive on return
He’s had three or four runs in handicaps and was taking on horses coming out of maiden hurdles so I was pretty confident coming down that he had the experience under his belt. We left him out for the summer and he’s done well. He’s only a five-year-old and is after strengthening up. He jumped great apart from one he fiddled down the back. I’d say he’d have no bother jumping a fence in due course. I’d say he’ll end up being a three-mile horse and when he hit the hill he picked up and got going. He’s a nice one. There is a two-and-a-half-mile novice handicap hurdle in Leopardstown at Christmas and whether he runs between now and then I’m not sure. He’ll stay hurdling this season and if he keeps improving he might win a nice staying pot, maybe one of those three-mile races in Navan.
Heist gets up on the line to grab the Money
It didn’t look the strongest of races and it’s nice to get his head in front. He’s in again at Downpatrick on Friday so he may go there.
Irish National runner-up Frontal back with a win
He was second in an Irish National the last day and I’d imagine we’ll head for something like a Troytown. Limerick would be a bit sharp for him and Navan suits him better. I thought he’d need the run today but I’d say the race fell apart when you look at the second and third. I was pleased with what he did and Jack was positive on him.
Star strikes again at Galway
His jumping came together today. The last day he overreached one early on. He did the same today but Danny said he was back into stride straight away. He loves Galway and the owners love Galway as well. He hasn’t been that busy so there are probably a few novice races there for him and we’ll probably keep him going until Christmas. The Galway Plate trip would be ideal for him. He wants further than today.
Flame lands double for Cromwell and Donoghue
Fury makes winning 'track' debut in bumper
We bought him in Cheltenham after he won his point-to-point. I think the softer the ground the better he’ll be and if I get my way he’ll go jumping hurdles straight away. He’s a really nice horse, stays well and goes through the ground well.
