An enquiry was held to consider why Luke McJannet was running Act Of Magic (IRE) here at Leicester on going described as Good to Firm, having declared the gelding a non-runner at Leicester on 25 June 2020 on ground with the same official description.
The trainer stated that last week he had been concerned about the ground getting too quick due to the hot weather conditions on the day and even though the forecast rain had failed to materialise on this occasion, the owner was keen to run and happy for Act Of Magic (IRE) to take its chance.
An enquiry was held to consider why William Stone was running Jeanette May (GB) here at Leicester on going described as Good to Firm, having declared the filly a non-runner at Leicester on 25 June 2020 on ground with the same official description.
The trainer stated that last week’s hot conditions had resulted in the ground drying out noticeably and with it being cooler weather on this occasion he was happier for Jeanette May (GB) to take its chance.
Permission was given for Chetan (GB) to be led to post early.
At the request of the Integrity Department at the Head Office of the British Horseracing Authority, an enquiry was held due to betting concerns surrounding Act Of Magic (IRE), ridden by Kieran O'Neill and trained by Luke McJannet, which finished seventh, beaten 5¼ lengths.
The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the race.
The rider stated his instructions had been to drop Act Of Magic (IRE) in, get the gelding relaxed and make his effort between runners.
He explained that he was happy with his position towards the rear of the field through the early stages, which is Act Of Magic (IRE)’s usual running style, but the gelding had started to run freely when the pace steadied going into the first bend.
He added that in the early part of the home straight he was endeavouring to coax Act Of Magic (IRE) into the race and keep the gelding interested, however when placed under maximum pressure inside the final 2 furlongs, Act Of Magic (IRE) had hung right-handed and appeared reluctant to go through with its finishing effort, only staying on evenly to the line.
This information was noted.
Following the race, Joshua Bryan reported that Chetan (GB), which started favourite and finished unplaced, planted as the start was effected, losing many lengths on the other runners and Jimmy Quinn reported that Cheap Jack (GB), unplaced, hung right-handed.
Jack Mitchell reported that My Lady Claire (GB) lost its action and he therefore pulled the filly up; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of My Lady Claire (GB) shortly after the race failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The Veterinary Officer further reported that Taurean Dancer (IRE), placed fourth, lost its left-fore shoe.
