Mike Liked By Cork punters after maiden success
That was very good and she improved with every run. Over five (furlongs) she is very quick and we were hoping today's easy five would suit and it did. She has a lot of pace but we couldn't get her into a breeze-up (sale) although she was the best breeze-up horse we had. There you are, she showed it today and she will definitely be for sale.
McCourt's colt Smokes Out nursery opponents with easy win
He was bought for €4,000 in Goffs (September 2023) and, from day one, was always lovely, although was a bit of a shell so was always going to fill up. He showed up plenty and while he initially had a lovely mark, I ran him in a maiden in Bellewstown and he almost ran too well. I was giving out to the handicapper but, as usual, he was proved right again. If the ground stays reasonable he'll run in the Birdcatcher and while he gallops like a horse who would appreciate a 'dig', I'm not sure if he is strong enough to handle it yet. Stephen Sweeney, from Ardee, bought into him recently and is also involved in Rampage. I bought five in Fairyhouse last week and the dearest was €6,000 so hopefully we can sneak a nice one out of them. I don't have owners for them but hope to later in the year and those are all qualified for the auction series races.
Drop in trip sees Susie return to winning ways
She didn't stay seven (furlongs) in Galway so we gave her a break and is only back five weeks. We'll see what's left for her now and I'd like to find a Listed race for her. She likes soft ground and Andrew thinks she is improving, so I'd run her. She is owned by a great bunch of four lads from Fethard who also bred her: Donal Tobin, Liam Sweeney, Willie Leahy who isn't here, and Richie Nevin whose father trained Belsir to win the (1987) Galway Hurdle.
Run Forrest Run backs up last years win in sprint handicap
It looks like the blinkers worked and Darragh is a good, up-and-coming jockey so we were lucky to get him with his 7lb claim. A few of the boys, Seamie Heffernan and Leigh Roche, who rode him on his last few runs said he wasn't trying very hard and to try the blinkers, so they were spot on. He won this race on bottomless ground last year and we're lucky to have him.

Admirable Mutasarref lands Listed Navigation Stakes
This is Eleanora's (Kennedy) last hurrah for the season as she heads back to the States this week, so goes out with a winner. She has had a lovely summer and Mutasarref has been a star. Today was for Eleanora as she asked me to have one ready before October 5. How do you get horses like that as, 'ya-I'll-have-a-horse-for-you' and the next thing is they have a stone bruise, a temperature or the ground is wrong or else the trainer's in a bad mood! He has done everything and more, has danced every jig and has kept a smile on our faces. it was straightforward and with having Colin on your side, you know you're in safe hands. He kept it simple, took a lead and put his head in front when he needed to, that's what he has been doing all his career on that horse. He is a legend of a horse and fellas are up at the sales in Goffs this week spending millions, so what would they give to find one of him?. Hopefully he isn't finished for the year but it depends on the ground as he doesn't want heavy.

Alessia Fernanda opens account in finale at Cork
She has had some good runs all summer and she tries hard every day. She is a grand filly, deserved that and the ground was a little quick for her the last day but she still ran a good race. She was back a furlong in distance today and won nicely. To win with 10st1lb always takes a bit of doing, no matter what the grade, and we're delighted with her. Ben (Curtin) has had horses with us for years, had a winner with us at Galway last year so it is lovely to get another for him.
