McMonagle takes the shortest route on Dlongway Dylan Browne McMonagle stuck to the inside rail throughout when making all on Wemightakedlongway to win the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden at Cork. Sent off 2/1, the Joseph O'Brien trained filly stepped up on a promising debut run over course and distance last month. Enjoying a less than clear passage first time up, McMonagle insured that there would be no repeat here, grabbing the rail from the outset and making the running. Pushed along over two furlongs out, the daughter of Australia found plenty for pressure inside the final furlong, staying on strongly to beat favourite Minnie Haul by two-and-a-half lengths. McMonagle later said: "She is a beauty, she is a big girl and has improved plenty from her first run. It was very straightforward, she jumped, travelled and was still green in front but there is plenty of talent there and she will only get better. "Declan (McDonogh) rode her the first day when they got smashed coming out of the stalls and got back in the field, but she did finish off really good. She has come forward from that and will only get better with time." Additional reporting by Thomas Weekes.
