Permission was given for Pencil (IRE) to wear a red hood to the start.
An enquiry was held to consider interference after jumping the last fence when Rafferty (IRE), placed fourth, ridden by John Kington, interfered with Lonimoss Bareliere (FR), placed fifth, ridden by Philip Armson.
Kington was suspended for 2 days for careless riding as he allowed his mount to shift left-handed towards the rail when insufficiently clear of Lonimoss Bareliere (FR), causing Armson to be checked in his run when tightened for racing room.
Following the race, Sean Bowen reported that Berliet Express (IRE), which was pulled up, made a bad mistake at the first fence and the Veterinary Officer reported that the gelding bled from the nose.
The Veterinary Officer further reported that Minella Choice (IRE), which started second-favourite and finished unplaced, also bled from the nose.
