Well-bred Binge Worthy begins a new series at Limerick
Limerick compensation for Team Ballymore
Built By Ballymore is a big and raw and will take time to come to himself. Even though we went a nice gallop and were a few lengths off the leader, I was happy where I was sitting. I thought the horse in front (Beau Walking) would carry me further and I took him back. I kicked on then and he'll learn loads from jumping the last two hurdles in front There is plenty more to come and he will jump a fence too. He will be a bit better on better ground but slogged it out today.
McNamaras get their Christmas winner at Limerick
It was a finish of bobbing heads. Usually I’d have a fair idea what way the result has gone but this time I really didn’t know. It’s great that we were called as the winner because we’ve been hitting the crossbar up to this point over Christmas. It’s lovely to get one here at Limerick in particular. There was nothing between the front two. We got a real good jump at the last, and that was probably the winning of the race. The ground was really bad at Clonmel one day and we kind of had our minds made up that we wouldn’t run him in that ground again. With the ground so testing here, we had a chat about that again this morning, but because he was absolutely working particularly well and that he was in superb form, we said we’d take our chance. If it wasn’t working out, the plan was for Conor to mind him. The owners of this horse are the most loyal and superb people. Michael Hannon is a friend of my brother Jimmy and he’s been with me for a good while now. We’ve had a bit of success together and this horse has been lucky for us.
Gaelic Warrior an effortless winner of the Faugheen
That was super and he settled away going his own gallop. I was trying to get him to pop early on but he wasn't too sure of that so I let him jump. He loves the ground, won as he liked and jumped well once he got into a rhythm. He has been beaten twice at Cheltenham and it doesn't really suit him as he jumps good and right. That said the Turners Chase is on the new course (at Cheltenham) which is slightly less tight than the old course. He is most definitely a different horse going right-handed but Cheltenham is Cheltenham. I'm not sure what Willie has in mind for him and I think the way he jumps, maybe 2m4f on soft ground is his best trip.
Happy Dreams realised at Limerick for the McDonaghs
That is my second winner this week and we have been lucky. This is his third win at Limerick and he loves it here. He was well-in at the bottom of the weights and young Mark gave him a lovely ride. We had a metal manufacturing business in Shannon and I found the sport was a great way of getting to know customers. We are racing a long time now and this has been a good week, although you'd need it. The horses were going ok at home, are happy but I never think we will win as everyone else does too! I'm very happy with what we achieved this week and when you get a winner everyone is happy - the guys in the yard are much more interested in their work and everyone feels a lot better.
Ishan ploughs through the mud under Enright
He loves those conditions and stays really well,. That’s his second time winning around here too. I’m delighted that he’s been able to handle those couple of jumps up in grade. Phillip said it inconvenienced him bypassing the second last. He’s got a good mark over fences so hopefully he’ll be grand going forward. He’s entered at Fairyhouse on New Year’s Day but I doubt he’d go there. He had a hard race today and we’ll mind him — he’s only five going six.
Byrnes & Barron the toast of Ballingarry
The owners are local to me in Ballingarry so it is great for them,. The horse hit a flat spot turning in and that happened to him in Navan too before staying on. He is an out-and-out three-miler so it was a bonus to win a bumper. He is a very nice horse, we bought him as a foal and he'll probably go jumping a hurdle now.
