Bon Papa justifies short price
He did it well obviously but he is unproven. He’s a lovely sort and a nice big raw type. I’ll talk to Willie and see what he thinks but you couldn’t say he’s that professional. He’s good but he still has plenty to learn. Willie thought that it was an easy opportunity for him (in Cork) and it was but he just got stuck in the mud at the back of the third last. I’d say he found an easy opportunity again today. I don’t think that was the strongest maiden and the proof was in the form. It was a nice performance. Coming back to two miles was fine and two-and-a-half or three miles on that ground wouldn’t be an issue. He’s improving all the time and I was very very pleased with him. I didn’t have him on the travelling list early in the season but he is now. Firstly I didn’t think he’d win a bumper but then his homework told us he’d win one and he won it well. He could probably have won a winners if we stayed that way but we decided to go jumping and he’s improving with every run. He would have no trouble going up in trip and I’d imagine he’s a Neptune horse more than a Supreme horse. He’s more a chaser than a hurdler but the amount of improvement he’s shown from last year to this year is phenomenal.

Shaneshill on top in Galmoy
He’s improving. Funnily Paul thought the nicer ground suited him and Ruby thought the soft ground was too soft for Clondaw Warrior,. He jumped fantastic. He got a good lead early in the race and made sure it was a good pace which is what he wants. The race was run to suit him. I’d imagine the Stayers Hurdle would be his owners preferred option. He couldn’t do anymore than win here. We’ll have a look but I’d imagine that’s what the plans will be. I’m disappointed with Clondaw Warrior as I think he’s better than that and I think better ground will suit him better as well. Looking at his legs he had muck right up to his fetlocks. I’d say he was digging into it and it wasn’t suiting him. I’d say it’ll be Cheltenham with him. I don’t think he’ll be going to Dubai. I think he’ll improve from that. Even though he’s had all those runs he looks big. He’s a horse that does himself very well and eats like a horse.
Notwhatiam win no surprise to Rath
Myself and JJ always thought this was a really good horse,. I made a mistake running him at Clonmel. He was third and went up 6lb for it. I think he’s a good horse and the softer the better for him. I wouldn’t run him back too quickly. He’s hardy but he seems to take three weeks. He should have a good future over fences. He won first time out for me and I don’t have him that terribly long. He’d run well the first day and then kind of make a liar out of you the next time. I could never figure it out. I was coming here today looking at the paper thinking ‘how is this lad 33/1’. I was thinking that maybe they know something that I don’t know!

It was a good performance,. He has a fair engine and I’ll keep him at that trip. He won’t go up in trip at the moment anyway.
