Notwhatiam win no surprise to Rath Notwhatiam sprang a 20/1 shock in the Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Hurdle but it wasn’t a big surprise to winning trainer Richie Rath. The Morozov gelding led two from home, under JJ Slevin, and scooted clear before the final flight in the two-and-a-half mile contest. The seven-year-old stayed on strongly in the closing stages to post a six-and-a-half length success over Go It Alone. “Myself and JJ always thought this was a really good horse,” said Rath. “I made a mistake running him at Clonmel. He was third and went up 6lb for it. I think he’s a good horse and the softer the better for him. “I wouldn’t run him back too quickly. He’s hardy but he seems to take three weeks. “He should have a good future over fences. He won first time out for me and I don’t have him that terribly long. “He’d run well the first day and then kind of make a liar out of you the next time. I could never figure it out. “I was coming here today looking at the paper thinking ‘how is this lad 33/1’. I was thinking that maybe they know something that I don’t know!”
