Butler was warned as to his responsibility to ensure that the correct sponsorship is carried.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of DOR’S LAW, ridden by Sophie Ralston and trained by Dean Ivory, which was held up towards the rear throughout before being asked for an effort approaching 2 furlongs out and staying on strongly under a hands and heels ride to finish second of fifteen, beaten by a head.
The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the mare during routine testing, failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated that her instructions were to jump handily, ride the race from there and only use the whip as a last resort.
Ralston explained that she rode DOR’S LAW along for some distance after leaving the stalls, but the mare failed to muster any early speed and therefore settled further back than intended.
She added that in her opinion there was no prior opportunity to safely improve her position on DOR’S LAW from after leaving the back straight until approaching the home turn, due to being pocketed down on the rail.
She further added that once DOR’S LAW obtained clear running approaching two furlongs out, she had ridden the mare out to the best of her ability and did not resort to the whip as DOR’S LAW was always responding well to her urgings in the home straight.
The trainer confirmed the instructions and that he was satisfied with the ride given.
Their explanations were noted.
Leaving the stalls, Mans Not Trot (IRE), placed seventh, jumped awkwardly and shifted left, crowding Ronni Layne (GB), unplaced, onto Island Flame, unplaced, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
Following the race, Paddy Bradley reported that Tobacco Road (IRE), unplaced, was slowly away and Megan Nicholls reported that Mans Not Trot (IRE), placed seventh, fly-leapt leaving the stalls, jumped left and she lost an iron as a result.
